CFA Chicago Conference: Saving America’s Retirement System

CFA Society Chicago presents its 2016 Annual Conference: Saving America’s Retirement System on Wednesday April 6, 2016 at the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago, IL.

The U.S. retirement system, often referred to as a three-legged stool, has become increasingly unstable.  Defined benefit plans are shrinking fast, personal savings including savings plans like the 401 (k) are also in decline, and Social Security, the country’s only ‘guaranteed retirement income source’, serves as the primary income source for fully one third of American retirees.

Join CFA Society Chicago to hear distinguished keynote speakers and three panels of experts as they discuss factors leading to today’s dire situation along with public policy and private sector solutions to provide adequate retirement income for millions of Americans.  Leading plan sponsors and consultants will discuss today’s retirement programs along with their efforts to ensure that their participants save enough to live comfortably in retirement.  Experts at the forefront of important public initiatives will then discuss both opportunities and challenges associated with newly designed state run retirement plans.  Most defined contribution plans have proven to be a poor replacement for the old defined benefit plans.  During the final session, our panel of experts will discuss new initiatives to improve America’s defined contribution model.

Keynote speakers: Michael Falk, CFA,  Focus Consulting Group;  Honorable Josh Gotbaum, The Brookings Institution Guest Scholar and former Director of Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp; and Roger Lowenstein, Financial Journalist and author of While America Aged: How Pension Debts Ruined General Motors, Stopped the NYC Subways, Bankrupted San Diego, and Loom as the Next Financial Crisis.
