The RIIA Delivering Retirement Income Solutions Workshop

Delivering Retirement Income Solutions presents an overview of the key risks and issues retirees face and provides guidance to help advisors uncover client needs so they can deliver the right investment and risk management solutions. Going forward, RIIA will create a series of educational programs and curriculum that will grant successful candidates the ability to obtain an RIIA-endorsed designation, RIIA Retirement Income Expert.

Q: How may I participate in the RIIA's retirement income classes?

A: There are three ways to participate:

  1. Register for an open enrollment class by calling the Retirement Learning Center at 1-877-275-7521 or visit www.retirementlc.com/pages/retirement_designations.html. The first course was held at the National Association for Fixed Annuities (NAFA) Expo and Forum on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at Harrah’s in Las Vegas.
  2. By invitation to attend a sponsored class. Investment firms may sponsor a class and/or select certain individuals to attend. Potential candidates receive an invitation from the sponsoring organization with all the details for enrollment.
  3. Attend a course offered through your place of employment that has been private-labeled under your employer’s name and specifications.

Q: When will the first open enrollment class be held?

A: The first open enrollment class will be held at the National Association for Fixed Annuities (NAFA) Expo and Forum on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at Harrah's in Las Vegas.

Q: What is the cost of tuition for the first open enrollment class?

A: The tuition for the first open enrollment class is $795, a special discounted rate for the NAFA Expo and Forum. This fee applies on a per person basis, and excludes hotel and travel expenses for the attendees.

Q: Will I receive an industry designation by completing the workshop?

A: No, but the class is the first step on the certification pathway. The Delivering Retirement Income Solutions course is the first in a series of three programs now under development that will ultimately qualify graduates to obtain the RIIA-endorsed designation of RIIA Retirement Income Expert.

Q: What is the minimum class size?

A: The minimum class size is 25 participants.

Q: Where are the courses held?

A: The first open enrollment course will be held in Las Vegas. For a current listing of course locations, please log on to www.retirementlc.com.

Q: Will I receive continuing education (CE) credits for attending RIIA courses?

A: Yes, you will receive CE credits for:

  • Insurance in 50 states and the District of Columbia

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)

  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and

  • Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA)

Q: Can my financial institution sponsor RIIA courses?

Q: What is the cost of tuition per participant for a sponsored or private-labeled class?

A: For RIIA members interested in sponsoring the classes, the discounted price per participant, per module is yet to be determined. Similar discounts are available for RIIA members who choose a private-labeled arrangement with specific pricing negotiated on a per case basis.

Q. What is the minimum class size for a sponsored class?

A: The minimum class size is 25 participants.

Q: What is the cost to offer a private-labeled RIIA course for my financial institution?

A: Financial institutions may offer a private-labeled RIIA course for an initial licensing fee, plus an annual renewal fee. As part of the licensing fee, RIIA will provide "train-the-trainer" sessions in preparation for delivering the course material.
