RIIA provides members with ongoing quantitative and qualitative analyses of trends in the manufacture, distribution and usage of retirement
income products and services.
RIIA will generate regular reports through the collection of data from its members, as well as through surveys of investors and financial
services intermediaries. Information for the database will be collected regularly from RIIA member organizations, aggregated, analyzed and
provided in members-only reports. These reports will be designed to provide RIIA members with a means to benchmark their firms' progress in
developing retirement income solutions and in retaining and growing retirement income-oriented assets.
Perspectives on Trends
In addition to the members-only reports, RIIA will regularly commission studies that provide additional perspectives on trends in the
distribution and use of retirement income products and services, such as survey-based studies of pre- and post-retirees and the financial
intermediaries who serve them. These studies will typically be offered at a significant discount to RIIA members, which will also have the
opportunity to provide up-front feedback on report subject-matter and methodology.
Understanding Distribution and Client Wealth Segments
Future research will provide additional perspectives on trends in the distribution and use of retirement income products and services, with a
focus on the pre- and post-retirees households and the financial intermediaries who serve them.
The goal of these studies and analysis is to inform member organizations of what and how products and services are being used in a retirement
income context and to draw distinctions among the distribution channels, including:
- Wirehouse Broker/Dealers
- Independent Broker/Dealers
- RIAs & Financial Planners
- Banks
- Investment Management Companies
- Insurance Companies
- DC Plan Recordkeepers
- Non-Affiliated Innovators
- IRA custodians
- Total Benefit Outsourcers (TBO)
- Total Retirement Outsourcers (TRO)
In addition, RIIA seeks to provide insight into the retirement income products and services being used across investor wealth segments,
such as Mass Market, Emerging Affluent, Affluent and High-Net Worth.
RIIA-commissioned studies will typically be offered at a significant discount to RIIA members, which will also have the opportunity, through
the Research Committee, to provide up-front feedback on report topics and methodology. With this data and with the sharing of ideas among our
members, RIIA will enhance the general understanding of investors’ retirement income needs and decision-making processes. This will enable
financial services firms to provide evermore compelling and effective retirement income solutions, which will benefit all Americans.
